Giving Back
Each month we donate a portion of our proceeds to the United Way of Chelan/Douglas County. Keeping the dollars local is important to us. If you would like more information or to donate visit www.uwcdc.org.
Wellness Place Yoga of Chelan is an outreach program from the Wellness Place of Wenatchee. Each Thursday at 10:15am at the Yogachelan Studio we offer a free restorative yoga class designed for cancer survivors, people living with illnesses, and caregivers. Yogachelan donates the studio space and instruction. Wellness Place for more information or to donate.
Yogachelan shares the health benefits of Yoga in their community. First Friday brings visitors and locals downtown to experience what's happening in Chelan. Yoga on the streets of Chelan.
Pateros School Health class students reached out to Yogachelan for information on dealing with stress and how yoga can help. Yogachelan donated two hours of teaching time giving information, discussing, and sharing movement and practice of yoga techniques for reducing stress in our everyday lives.
Worked with in-mates at the Wenatchee Jail in a Yoga and Fathers program through Washington State University. Each week teaching yoga to young fathers incarcerated for low level crimes. https://county.wsu.edu/chelan-douglas/youth/families/Pages/Fit_Fathers.aspx
For the Humane Society of Wenatchee, which serves Chelan we collect rugs, blankets, towels, etc. for bedding for the animals in the shelter. These bedding items are changed constantly, so the volume is needed. The items can be used, torn, or new, just as long as they are clean. If you have items for the Humane Society please let us know, we make regular trips to deliver the items. For more information or to donate www.wenatcheehumane.org.
World Yoga Day, January 31, Yogachelan donated two hours of yoga at two locations for this fund raiser to bring awareness to Human Rights throughout the world. This years recipeint was Doctors without Borders, Yogachelan collected $800. www.world-yoga-day.com

National Yoga Awareness Month September 2009 encourages Mind Body Fitness movement. Yogachelan, as a participant in National Yoga Month, honored the Yoga Month Card for One Week Free Yoga, donated September 12th Yoga in the Park class with proceeds to benefit the National Yoga Month Awareness Campaign and yoga health education programs in schools, and offered a 25% discount on their fourteen class punch cards through the month of September to encourage yoga participation. www.yogamonth.com
In July, Yogachelan shared a two hour yoga experience with 20 Breaking Boundaries campers. These at risk youth attended a camp supported by the Central Washington University Bridges Project (grant funded). The class gave the campers the opportunity to do something that would enrich their lives and give them tools to cope with their individual life situations. www.cwu.edu/bridges
June 2009 Yogachelan worked on the Habitat for Humanity House in Chelan Falls. This was their 13thCancer meets house in the Valley. June and July we opened our studio to one of our students who was working on her YogaFit Training Certification for Level 1. As part of the training, the new yoga instructor gives back to their community 8 hours of free introductory yoga. Lisa and Lynda have received their trainings through this internationally known yoga teaching system out of California. www.yogafit.com
Each month Women Surviving/Thriving Cancerm eets for lunch or dinner. In May Yogachelan provided the location for the lunch and a 30 minute seated yoga class. This effort is sponsored through the Wellness Place of Wenatchee. For meeting dates and location contact www.ncwruralhealth.org
March 2009 was Yogachelan's one year anniversary. As part of our promise to give back, we collected food for the Chelan Food Bank. During the entire month we encouraged our students and business associates to donate food. To help www.northwestharvest.org. We also offered a FREE 4 class series to encourage those new to yoga to come try with no obligation. In March we also hosted the Chelan Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. www.lakechelan.com
The first part of 2009, Yogachelan sold beads for the women of Uganda through Grassroots Uganda. Grassroots Uganda believes in empowering women with all necessary skills so each woman can survive and be independent, and provide for her family's necessities and education for her children.
